The 10-second job post check

Can I apply from Africa?

Most “remote” jobs are remote inside one country. Before you spend an hour on an application, check these five things.

1. The location says Worldwide, Anywhere or EMEA“Remote – US” or “Remote (UK)” means you must live there. “Worldwide”, “Anywhere” and “EMEA” are open to you. EMEA means Europe, Middle East and Africa. Some EMEA roles still list specific countries, so read the whole post.
2. There’s no “must be authorized to work in…” lineThat line usually means you need the legal right to work in that country. If it’s missing and the role says “contractor”, it’s often open internationally.
3. The time zone works for youMost of Africa is UTC+0 to UTC+3, the same working day as Europe. “4h overlap with CET” is easy. “Must work PST hours” means working nights.
4. They pay across bordersMentions of Deel, Remote.com, Oyster or “contractor” mean they already hire people in other countries.
5. The role is on the company’s own siteFind it on the company’s careers page before you apply. If you can’t, be careful.

Any hard “must live in…” → skip it and save your time.
